CMA Sports Shooting Rules Version 5.0: Update!

May 20, 2026

Dear CMA members,

With the last communication a couple of days ago, we already introduced the new revolver divisions. In the meantime, the rules and other documents have been updated accordingly.

CMA sports shooting rules update

The new rules, version 5.0, will be in effect from June 1, 2026. Here's a summary of the changes:

Revolver Divisions

For the men and women with hands of steel :-)

Sport Division

Many manufacturers offer variants of their models with compensators or ported barrels from the factory. We decided to allow standard factory compensators and ported barrels in the sport divisions. The specifications for weight and dimensions remain the same.

Duty Division

Some of the popular duty pistols come with optional large grip panels. If installed, those pistols can become wider than 35mm. Thus, the maximum width for the duty division is increased to 40mm.

Holsters and Loading Device Pouches

On order to make the equipment choice easier, some of the criteria are relaxed as follows:

  • The distance between firearm and belt can now be a maximum of 30mm.

  • The analogous distance applies to loading devices.

  • The highest point of the handgun backstrap must be level or higher than the top edge of the belt.

Instructor Certification Renewal

Instructors will have to renew their certification every 24 months. The condition is, to have given at least 2 standard courses in the renewal period.

Change Log

The complete change log is available here and on the rules page:

The new document versions are available for download on the website in English and German languages. Please have a little patience for the other translations to be updated as well.

Many additional documents such as the handgun skills test one pager and various presentations have been updated to reflect the changes.

Outlook

We are looking forward to the upcoming competitions and we hope you enjoy the new possibilities that these enhancements offer. Let's further improve CMA dynamic sports shooting together!

Straight shooting and best regards!

For the founding team
