Dear CMA Members,

As you probably know, there is an ongoing debate about alleged safety issues of SIG P320 series pistols. There have been reports of accidental discharges of P320 pistols causing injuries and death. In the United States, several police departments, parts of the armed forces and a number of civilian ranges and training providers have banned the P320 pistols from use.

SIG P320

To our knowledge at this point in time, it is still unclear what the causes of the concerned accidents are and whether the P320 pistols, or some specific models or versions, actually do have inherent design flaws, quality issues or other problems that can render those guns unsafe. SIG denies any such problems and there hasn't been a recent recall of any sort.

As a sports shooting organization, we have a reasonable duty of care towards all persons present at a shooting event. The founders team has therefore decided to implement the following safety measures:

We discouraged the use P320 series pistols in any CMA event, including courses, training, competitions and any other live firing events under CMA rules or where the CMA brand is used.

Effective immediately and until further notice, for shooters with P320 pistols it is not allowed:

  1. to start from a loaded start condition

  2. to carry the pistol loaded and holstered

  3. to draw or holster a loaded pistol

  4. to deposit a loaded pistol

If a P320 pistol is used, all of the above has to be performed with the P320 series pistol either unloaded or empty chamber.

We are fully aware, that there are thousands of SIG P320 users that have never experienced any problems with their pistol. We also do not know for sure, whether those pistols actually can be unsafe to use. However, in light of the numerous reports, we feel that it would be irresponsible to take any unnecessary risks. Safety first should not just be a lip service.

We will monitor the available relevant information and if there are new facts, we will take appropriate action. We hope for your understanding in the name of safe and responsible behavior in sports shooting.

For the founders team and with best regards

Andy
